Don't you hate it when people offer vague references?
 
Republic was the focus of a dissertation by someone who's name I vaguely
remember as Hurst. Robert, Richard, maybe. He was also the author editor of
as semi-coffee table book on Republic. Dates: mid-'70s?
 
If you wish I can fish around the biblio resources in my library to be more
precise.
