There's been quite a bit of critical writing lately on the fanzine
phenomenon, "Star Trek" and otherwise. For starters, I would look at
"_Star Trek_ Rerun, reread, Rewritten: fan Writing as Textual Poaching."
by Henry Jenkins III in _Close Encounters: Film Feminism and Science Fiction_
Ed. Constance Penley et al. Minneapolis: U of Minnesota P, 1990.
Constance Penley has written a few articles about fanzine writing. Also, look
for an article by Rosemary Coombe, a law professor from Toronto, about
the legal implications of fan writing's appropriation of "owned" characters
and images. This will be forthcoming in _Discourse_ 14.2.
