A personal favorite: RUGGLES OF RED GAP (1930, d. by Leo McCarey),
starring Charles Laughton, Charlie Ruggles, ZaSu Pitts and Roland
Young.  Later remade, with Bob Hope in the Laughton role, as FANCY
PANTS.  I'm at a loss for books on the subject, though...
