Television and Media Studies: The Cinema and Media Studies program in UCLA’s Film, Television and Digital Media Department (FTVDM) invites applications for a full-time, tenured position in Television and Media Studies at the rank of Full Professor. Candidates should have a strong publication record in television studies that showcases a decisive intervention in the field, administrative experience, evidence of service, as well as experience supervising PhD dissertations, advising graduate students, and mentoring junior faculty. We seek a scholarly innovator whose expertise spans multiple historical, critical, or methodological approaches, and whose work has reframed or opened up the rapidly shifting field of Television and Media Studies. Expertise in two or more of the following areas is preferred: television history, audience and ethnographic studies, production studies, the social and cultural politics of television and media, television industries, aesthetics, cultural studies, political economy, genre, inter- or transmedia and global or transnational media. 

The FTVDM Department focuses on intermedial frameworks that emphasize social justice and inclusivity and would particularly welcome a scholar who expands the department’s research and teaching coverage of LGBTQ, race, ethnic, and/or disability studies approaches. Record of scholarly affiliation with related departments and area/ethnic studies research centers also a plus. Deadline for submission of application: November 1, 2018.

Application information: Applicants must have a PhD in film studies, media studies, area studies, or a related discipline. Applicant must hold an academic appointment with tenure and be able to be appointed as a full professor at UCLA. The department is searching for applicants who have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and social justice and who are able to teach and advise broadly across the Cinema and Media Studies core and elective curriculum.

Please submit an electronic version of your CV, the names of 3 references who may be contacted regarding your application, a statement of teaching goals and experience, a statement of contributions to diversity, one published article or book chapter (no more than 40 pages) and a cover letter of no more than 3 pages that addresses your particular suitability for the position.
