The English Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato seeks a specialist in Film Studies to teach a variety of introductory, upper-level, and graduate courses, including courses such as Film History and Film Production or Film Genres. In addition, candidates must be prepared to teach writing-intensive general education film courses. An ability to teach online and/or hybrid courses is desirable. Also required: continued scholarly and/or creative activity, undergraduate and graduate advising, and service on department or university committees. Standard university teaching load is 24 credits per year (standard English Department load is three 4-credit courses per semester).

Required Qualifications:

*         Terminal degree in Film Studies (doctorate or MFA), English (doctorate), or closely related field, conferred on an official transcript by August 10, 2015.

*         Evidence of preparation to teach Film History.

*         Relevant scholarly activity.

*         College-level teaching experience in film and writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

*         Demonstrated ability to teach film production (video/digital).

*         Demonstrated ability to teach specialized film courses in areas such as film genres, international film, and film adaptation.

*         Demonstrated ability to teach online or hybrid courses at the college level.

*         Experience using classroom technology (e.g., course management systems).

*         Record of successful contributions to student growth and development.

*         Record of successful workplace collaboration or other departmental, college, or university service.

*         Scholarly, research, or creative interests that will advance the mission and goals of the English department at Minnesota State University, Mankato (see http://english.mnsu.edu/mission.htm  for departmental goals).

*         Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

Additional Information:
The English Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato includes master's level programs in Creative Writing (MFA), Literature and English Studies, Technical Communication, and TESL, and undergraduate programs in the same fields plus Humanities and English Education. There are also undergraduate minors in linguistics and film studies. The English department is also responsible for the university's large composition program and offers general education courses in literature, film, popular culture, and humanities.
