Tenure Track Assistant Professor in New Media and Film/TV Studies

Georgia State University

The Department of Communication at Georgia State University in Atlanta invites applicants for a Tenure-track Assistant Professor position in New Media and Film/TV Studies to begin in August 2012, pending budgetary approval. Ph.D., M.F.A., or other equivalent terminal degree required.

We seek a scholar with an active research program underway, and are particularly interested in candidates whose work intersects with at least one of the following areas: (1) Theoretical, critical, and/or historical approaches to emerging media (e.g., gaming, interactive media, mobile technologies); (2) International film and/or television (specializations in Asia and/or Latin America especially sought); (3) Production studies and/or media industries. Because a high priority for the department’s doctoral program is to foster new media research, candidates whose scholarship centrally connects to new media or digital image culture are strongly preferred; because the position will address surging demand in a growing undergraduate film/TV studies major, a grounding in television or cinema studies as well as a wide-ranging generalist teaching record is also preferred.

Applications should include a letter of application and CV, transcripts, examples of scholarly or creative work, three letters of recommendation, and evidence of teaching effectiveness. An offer of employment will be conditional upon background verification. Review of applications will begin December 1, 2011.

Georgia State University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. Women, minorities, and candidates from other traditionally under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply. Address applications to Dr. Alisa Perren, Search Chair, Department of Communication, Georgia State University, One Park Place South, Suite 662, Atlanta, GA 30302-4000.
