Traces in Grains is an initiative of Istanbul Bilgi University, with the aim of developing awareness in the matters of keeping, preserving and making accessible the audiovisual heritage.
This 3-day conference is conceived as an international meeting place between professionals from the archival field, academics, students, artists, etc. who in their work focus on lost/found/recycled images. During these three days, guests will present their work in a variety of formats, and exchange ideas and information with each other and the audience. Film screenings or presentations of 'work in progress' will be alternated with lectures, round table discussions, and workshops.

Traces in Grains is open to everyone interested in and concerned about AV-heritage.
It hopes to inspire new initiatives by sharing knowledge and experiences on archival matters.
It aims to open space for artistic re-use of AV-heritage and thus suggest new directions in the reception of archival/found material.
Traces in Grains is based on the pleasure of seeing those images that were presumed to be long-lost, but are now re-born thanks to elaborate care, devotion and restoration.
It aims to show hitherto unknown or hidden (aspects of) cinema, its history and development, and current challenges related to its maintenance.
Traces in Grains hopes to inspire local initiatives and international collaborations to help safeguard and show AV material that is at risk.
