Call for Papers

2006 Film and History League Conference
“The Documentary Tradition”
www.filmandhistory.org

AREA: Music and Performance

The interaction between film and music provides a rich opportunity from
which to
examine the political and cultural realities of popular music forms and the
interplay between these forms. Considering the conference’s title,
“The Documentary Tradition,” research that is able, within a documentary
film form, to make sense of musical practice in culture and potentially
everyday life will be considered for the “Music and Performance”
category. Tour films, concert/theater films, documentary narratives, and
fan
biopics--to name a few formats--are all potential areas for exploration.
The conference will provide a rich context from which to
explore these topics in panel form as well as with other opportunities
including an appearance by concert filmmakers D.A. Pennebaker and Chris
Hegedus
as keynote speakers.

The Film and History League conference details can be found at
www.filmandhistory.org. The meeting will run from 8-12 November, 2006 in
the Dolce Conference Center near the DFW airport. A spectrum of other areas
is evolving on the web site at www.filmandhistory.org.
