Cyberlink's "Power DVD" software allows you to set bookmarks easily
using your computer's DVD drive. The price varies from $40-70; it
depends which version you purchase.

Subject: [SCREEN-L] Is it possible to jump to specific moment on a DVD
(bypassing the chapter menu)?

Hi,

A few weeks ago, I asked if people had strong opinions about film
viewing attendance policies in undergraduate courses. The feedback to
this question was fantastic, and I just wanted to thank everyone who
took time to reply.

I am writing with another question: Does anyone know of any software
that makes it possible to jump to a specific moment in time on a DVD?
For example, imagine that I'm reviewing scenes from the film "Annie
Hall" in a lecture on "the long take." I would love to be able to jump
to the sidewalk scene with Rob (5:00), the Allison/Alvie bedroom scene
(14:25), and the first visit to Annie's apartment (29:21). The
chapter/scene menu is only of limited use in such a situation.

I've consulted the manual for the DVD player, and there doesn't seem to
be a way of doing this. However, the computer in the classroom does have
a DVD ROM drive. I'm currently using a piece of software called VL
Player that allows me to move through the disc using a slider bar. This
is a reasonably workable solution, but it isn't very precise.

Has anyone else come up with solutions to this problem?

Thanks in advance for your time,
Aaron
