On July 27 and July, 2002, Northeast Historic Film in Bucksport, Maine
will host its annual Summer Film Symposium, with this year’s theme being
"Close Readings:  Seeing Amateur Films in Important Ways"

The symposium will be moderated by Mark Neumann (University of South
Florida) and Rick Prelinger (The Internet Archive and Prelinger
Archives, San Francisco). Speakers include: Rick Prelinger; Barbara
Greenstone (Mt. Ararat Middle School, Topsham, Maine), Martha McNamara
(University of Maine Orono), Jeffrey Ruoff (Dartmouth College); Megan
Shaw Prelinger (Prelinger Archives) and Greg Pierce (Orgone Cinema and
Archive).

Topics include: amateur film and new media; student readings of images
from the past; the relationships among archival footage, new interviews,
juxtaposition and interpretation; visual anthropology and home movies;
home movies and ethnography in the evolving Oregon frontier; and
collecting, reuse and exhibition of home movies.
