Lang,

For books about early acting styles and the shift from theatrical styles to
cinematic acting, try:
Roberta Pearson, ELOQUENT GESTURES: The Transformation of Performance Style
in the Griffith Biograph Films, and Ben Brewster and Lea Jacobs, THEATRE TO
CINEMA. Also, Henry Jenkins discusses the transformation of vaudeville
style into film in WHAT MADE PISTACHIO NUTS?
