WRT Chinese film:

Much of Rey Chow's work addresses this subject area. Book titles include
Ethics after Idealism, Primitive Passions, and Women and Chinese
Modernity. Relevant material by Chow and other authors appears in the
following anthologies: Sheldon Hsiao-peng Lu, Transnational Chinese
Cinemas; Yingjin Zhang, Cinema and Urban Culture in Shanghai, 1922-1943;
Poshek Fu & David Desser, The Cinema of Hong Kong : History, Arts,
Identity; and Esther C.M. Yau, At Full Speed: Hong Kong Cinema in a
Borderless World. Some Hong Kong International Film Festival catalogues
contain relevant articles. Also an advertisement for myself: "Tales of
Recombinant Femininity: The Reincarnation of Golden Lotus, the Chin P'ing
Mei, and the Politics of Melodrama in Hong Kong." The Journal of Film and
Video 45.4 (1993): 57-70; essays by Amelie Hastie and Anne Ciecko and
Sheldon Lu in Post Script 19.1 (Fall 1999). And there are other
significant journal articles.
