Calls for Papers
Caucus on Class
Society for Cinema Studies Conference
Denver, Colorado -- May 23-26, 2002
Deadline: September 20, 2001

1) Workshop: "Sexual Politics and Radical Film Criticism"

DESCRIPTION: Participants in this workshop are asked to focus on the
intersections of sexual politics (queer studies, feminism, sexual
liberation) with Marxism and similar radical methods challenging the
dominant political-economic order and looking to class struggle. An ambition
is to renew radical critical strategy that reinvigorates the association of
Marxism with psychoanalysis and puts both in service of both radical
readings of media and political activism.

2) Workshop: "Film Studies as Radical Discipline II"

DESCRIPTION: This workshop will continue the discourse begun at SCS 2001,
but with a more specific focus. Proposals should focus on radical classroom
practices, including syllabus construction, pedagogical strategies, film
selections, and other concerns that might give media education a
class-based, labor-based critical perspective at a time of overwhelming
control of film/media by capital. (Contacts: Christopher Sharrett and
Isabelle Freda)
