i understand they couldn't get the money for a theatrical feature so it was
finished off as a TV film. it's ok as a straight-forward fictionalisation of
the doc "the battle over citizen kane" but i seem to recall some pretty tall
poetic license being taken (a meal with welles entertaining hurst) for
pretty half-assed dramatic effect. malkovich and melanie griffith were very
good in it.

the recent "cradle will rock" was considerably more interesting, even though
it deals with an earlier period in welles' life.
