BROCK UNIVERSITY

Department of Communications, Popular Culture and Film

The Department of Communications, Popular Culture and Film at Brock
University invites applications for a probationary (tenure-track)
appointment in popular culture and film studies at the rank of Assistant
Professor, effective July 1, 2001. The position is subject to final
budgetary approval. A thriving interdisciplinary unit with approximately
400 majors, the department offers together with its programs in Film
Studies and Popular Culture an undergraduate specialization in four streams
of Communications: media and culture, communications policy, business
communications, and information technology (for more information see our
website: http://www.brocku.ca/cpcf/). The university is introducing a new
interdisciplinary MA program in popular culture to begin in September 2001.
A recently completed Ph.D. in a relevant discipline is required, together
with evidence of successful teaching experience and research potential. In
addition to undergraduate teaching in popular culture and film studies, the
successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong externally-funded
program of research and scholarship in the area of expertise, contribute to
curriculum development, and participate fully in the affairs of the
department. It is also expected that the successful candidate will teach
and supervise theses in the MA program. Applicants should submit by 20
April 2001 a letter of application accompanied by a curriculum vitae,
summaries of teaching evaluations, and selected reprints and pre-prints of
published work to: Professor Jim Leach, Chair, Department of
Communications, Popular Culture and Film, Brock University, St. Catharines,
ON L2S 3A1. In addition, applicants should arrange for three letters of
reference to be sent to Professor Leach by the deadline. In accordance with
Canadian immigration requirements, this advertisement is directed to
Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Brock University is committed to
a positive action policy aimed at reducing gender imbalance in faculty;
qualified women and men candidates are equally encouraged to apply. More
