Lecturer in
Hindi and Urdu Language and Literature
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks to appoint a
Lecturer in Hindi and Urdu language and literature for a 3-year
renewable term position, beginning July 1, 2001.  Responsibilities
will include teaching courses in Hindi and Urdu from the beginning
to advanced levels using both devanagari and nasta'liq scripts as
well as courses in South Asian literature and culture.  Preference
will be for candidates with a Ph.D., or ABD, in South Asian Studies
with a research specialty in Hindi or Urdu literature and evidence of
effective teaching experience. Letters of application (postmarked no
later than December 1, 2000), with supporting materials including a
curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendation, should be
sent in hard copy to Chair, Hindi and Urdu Search Committee,

New Tenure Track Position in
South Asia Film Studies
North Carolina State University

The Department of English seeks to hire an Assistant Professor of
Film Studies to begin 01 August 2001, with specialization in South
Asian Cinema.  Teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and
graduate level include Introduction to Film, Film History, and Film
Theory, as well as courses in area of specialization.  Training in
fields of English Studies, Cultural Studies, Screenwriting, or World
Literature also welcome.  The search committee will interview
candidates at the MLA convention in Washington, DC.  Submit
