Critical Essays on Situation Comedies

Critical essays are sought for an edited book on situation comedies.
Relevant topics include: the conventions of the form; the sitcom family,
including children and age issues; sitcoms and the workplace; sitcoms and
gender, including essays on female identity, male identity, and sexual
orientation; sitcoms and ethnicity; sitcoms and social class; other topics
broadly ideological.  Appropriate perspectives include critical or cultural
studies, feminist theory, queer theory, and interdisciplinary approaches.

The volume will be edited by Mary M. Dalton, author of The Hollywood
Curriculum: Teachers and Teaching in the Movies, and Laura R. Linder, author
of Public Access Television: America's Electronic Soapbox.

Abstracts must be postmarked by October 15, 2000.  Submit two copies of the
abstract along with the author's curriculum vita.  Authors of selected
abstracts will be invited to submit a manuscript of no more than 30
double-spaced pages in either MLA or APA style.  E-mail inquiries are
