ANNOUNCEMENT of OPENING

DEPARTMENT: Communication Studies
POSTION: Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Broadcasting, Television and Film
STARTING DATE: September 1,2000

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
M.F.A. in film or video. Minimum of three years combined professional and
teaching experience. Record of creative achievement or promise. Knowledge and
experience in film (35mm, 16mm and Super 8) and video field production.
Experience in lighting for dramatic and documentary field production.
Knowledge of and experience in the responsibilities of the Director of
Photography, the First Assistant Camera, Second Assistant Camera and other
positions in a professional motion picture camera department. Ability to
translate professional aesthetic and technical standards to student production
in film or video on shoestring budgets. Demonstrated ability and interest in
working in a multi-ethnic, multicultural environment. If unable to fill this
position, it may be converted to a Full-time Temporary appointment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of new technological resources and their integration into
instruction through web and other means. Experience in a wide range of film
and video equipment (including BetaSP and DVCAM, and Panavision and Arriflex
Cameras). Experience in a wide range on video editing systems including Avid
(Media Composer and Express), Adobe Premier and Sony ES-7 as well as
traditional cuts only tape to tape systems is a plus.

DUTIES:
Norma1 teaching load of two courses during each of three quarters, including
up to four offerings of Single Camera Production and two of Cinematography.
Contribution to curriculum development; participation in and initiation of
appropriate industry relations, engage in appropriate creative or scholarly
activities; student advisement; participation in University or community
service, and other duties, as needed.

THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Communication Studies offers BA degrees in Speech and
Broadcasting (with options in Telecommunications and Film, Broadcast
Journalism, and Animation) and an MA degree in Communication Studies with
options in Speech Communication and Telecommunications and Film with
concentrations in Screenwriting and Critical Studies. Detailed information

SALARY: Initial salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be
within the range of: 40,488-76,128
